Finalists for the Truckee Green challenge will be determined based on popular vote on the Sierra Sun website. The winners from that pool of finalists will be determined by the point system outlined below. Winners in each category will be audited by the TDPUD to verify contestant energy savings before prizes are awarded.
You can use this point-based score card to calculate your own energy savings and build up your score!
Appliance Energy Efficiency
Yes = 20 Points
No = 0 Points
Do you have an Energy Star refrigerator?
Do you have an Energy Star dishwasher?
Do you have an Energy Star washing machine?
Is your refrigerator thermostat set for energy savings?
Lighting
Yes = 10 Points
No = 0 Points
Installed CFL or LED light bulbs? (10-points each)
Installed LED night-lights? (10-points each)
Do you have LED Holiday Lights?
Heating
Yes = 20 Points
No = 0 Points
Do you have a new or clean furnace filter?
Is your thermostat set at 65 degrees or below?
Water Heating
Yes = 20 Points
No = 0 Points
Is your water heater insulated with a jacket?
Are your hot water pipes insulated?
Do you use low-flow showerheads?
Do you use faucet aerators?
Weatherization
Yes = 20 Points
No = 0 Points
Are your windows properly caulked?
Do your doors have weather-stripping?
Have you had your heating ducts tested for leaks?
Have you had leaks fixed on heating ducts?
